- 90%+ efficient AC Power Conversion "Gold Climate Saver" rated power supplies
- ASHRAE TC9.9 Compliant Front to Rear Airflow
How to Build an Energy Efficient Ethernet Switch
The foundation for lower power draw starts with using the most efficient custom silicon processes available. Every two years transistor density doubles - if networking silicon ages for four to six years it can be 4-8x less efficient than currently available silicon. Arista is committed to offering our customers the most efficient and latest silicon technologies.
The use of cutting-edge silicon gets you 70% of the way to a ultra-low power Ethernet system; the remainder is the hard part that requires a thorough systems approach. The Arista 7500 has true front-to-rear airflow without 'turning' the air in an 'S' shape like most other front-to-rear airflow systems do. By avoiding turns in the airflow you reduce turbulence and hot spots and can use a lower power fan to achieve the same cooling effect.
Fan Modules in the Arista 7500 not only have an easier job than in legacy systems, they also are variable-speed and the fan rotation speed is selected based on the inlet ambient temperature sensors and the current loading factors on the switch. The system automatically brings the fan rotational velocity up as increased performance or temperatures dictate increased cooling capacity is needed.
The Arista 7500 is accomplished with a Gold Climate Saver rated power supply that converts AC to DC with a 90%+ conversion efficiency.
The Arista 7500 is designed to last - with the performance, density, footprint, and fabric necessary to support the market transition to 40Gb and 100Gb the Arista 7500 is designed to last longer than other switching systems reducing e-Waste and providing customers with a longer life-cycle.
